Hydesville Church History
In 1889 the First Christian Church denomination built our church building here in Hydesville (some records state 1879 as the original date of construction.) Early minutes dated July 15, 1893, call the congregation Hydesville Union Sunday School. The minutes for August 12, 1894 show a name change to Hydesville Christian School.
By 1918 the Congregational Church had dwindled to only a few people. In 1918, the Congregational Church decided to combine with the First Christian Church. The church subsequently closed it's doors. A few years later, a local resident, Mrs. Rowely, who started a Sunday school reopened the doors. At this time the church was referred to as the Hydesville Christian Church.
In 1947 the work of repairing and redecorating the church building began. The first salaried pastor was called in 1948, the Rev. Floyd Anderson. The name change to Hydesville Community Church was official on January 15, 1951.
In 1961 the church members voted to affiliate with the Evangelical Free Church of America. The Evangelical Free Church of America is an association of some 1,500 autonomous churches united by a mutual commitment to serve our Lord Jesus Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and obedience to the Word of God. The EFCA mission statement, we exist to glorify God by multiplying healthy churches among all people, drives the vision for the future of the EFCA.
In 1983 the Hydesville Community Church called Pastor Michael Delamarian III as Senior Pastor. In 1996 the church called Pastor Jeff Beltz as Associate Pastor. Pastor David Besanceney currently serves as Pastor of Youth and Pastor Don Fregeau Sr. serves as Pastor of Visitation.
